1988 Jim Beam Corvette Decanter Review and Giveaway
Many people believe the golden era of bourbon was the 60s, 70s, and 80s. In this review we fresh crack a 1988 Jim Beam that came in a Corvette decanter, and compare it to its modern equivalent Jim Beam White Label. As always we give a little way for free, so you may have a chance to try this experiment at home.

Was it 750ml or 1/5 ie a fifth ? The 70's didn't use metric .
This decanter is from 1988 and it says 750 mL
Good episode, love it. Drank a lot of Beam in the 80s😂. Didnt save any...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fabulous presentation. I've become very interested in bourbons this past year, which made your video ever more interesting. Thank you.
Our pleasure! What's your favorite bourbon you've found so far?
Dangit I love your stuff! So sorry for your loss. We came close with a couple of family members. It's tough. I was lucky enough to be in the Dallas area for training when I found you. Picked up the Pridefull Goat and loved it. Ended up back there a month later and got a few more! Love the in depth explanation of the wider market. You explained for me the NDP thing and what it meant. I've embraced it and searched out quality product that is reasonably priced. I want to pay for the taste not the fancy bottle or "interesting" back story. Cant wait to try your glasses. I noticed the shock to the nose myself. In the future I'd love to hear a deeper dive into Pot Still vs Column Still...advantages, disadvantages, why the bourbon would taste different with one vs the other. If you already have...hopefully I'll locate it later tonight. Cheers!
ruclips.net/video/A2DhKD-8w2I/видео.html Next time you come to Dallas shoot me a message. You can come over for a drink.
@@BourbonRealTalk Will do. I'm there regularly. Thanks for the link!
I have several Ducks Unlimited Jim Beam decanters with "100 month old" Beam from the late 70s and early 80s. Three of the four are unopened and sealed. After watching, I think I might have to open one just to see.
I would go ahead and open them. They are just as good on display empty as full, and then you can share the experience.
Good video
Thanks!
I’m a big fan of Beam products. It would be very cool to have this or even get to try it!
I have an Ohio decanter that's full, and it tasts pretty good! Definitely richer tasting than newer bottles
That’s Facemans Vette from the A-Team.
3:39 Balcones Distilling gives the age in months - for instance, my current bottle of Baby Blue corn whisky is AGED AT LEAST 12 MONTHS IN OAK. 🙂 8:39 I much prefer a screw top for that reason among others.
158👍
Cheers!
If I win I’ll send ya some decanter samples I have
That would be cool to own, I never knew they did the corvette decanter, wow! Peace and love to all, keep pouring!! ✌️🥃
Another fun one, much appreciated!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’ve got a 68 decanter and a 71 decanter and both are 100 months and 86 proof. Both were extremely dark in comparison to the modern day Beam and with both I was pleasantly surprised with how good they both were, although both of them had this kind of paint or paint thinner taste to them. Neither were off putting, just something I’ve never experienced before. Highly recommend tracking down some of these dusties.. 🥃🥃
Wow. What a fun video. Love to hear about antique whiskey and the stories that come with them
Glad you liked it!
Most interesting. I never knew that the Corvette decanter was ever made. Very informative about this time in history. Thanks
Our pleasure!
So much fun to watch, as always!! Thanks, Chris, for sharing the experience with us.
Thank you for watching!
My father in law collected those things and had a bunch of them but all were empty. Bummer
Absolutely - this industry overinflated during COVID and we’re about to see a lot of subprime labels go belly up because they are not worth the dollar.
I was gifted a decanter of JB that was bottled in 1973 and when I opened it I noticed the nose was absolutely wonderful and the flavor was even better!!! I believe decanters keep the liquor and only enhance its flavor!!
Thanks for the information. I have a Clint Eastwood decanter from the late 1970’s. Unfortunately, the liquid is gone, but I still display the decanter.
❤
There is such a major difference between dusty Jim Beam and newer Jim Beam. Out of all of the big names I do find that dusty Beam does not have as much of that dusty funk as say Wild Turkey. One of my favorite bottles that I have tried is a 130 proof single barrel of Beam from 1984.
I am seeing a lot of bottles I did not see three years ago
All of the ones I have found were because the generation of people who collected them are at the age that they are passing away.
Years ago i did some flooring for a guy who collected corvettes and other classic cars and he had a every year of these dacanters and a bunch of other crazy car decanters. All empty but really cool to look at.
Very nice review - Good ole Dusty - listen to it with Van Halen 1984
Very nice of you to offer up some of your vette dusty Chris. Good video. I like these dusty one's.
In the 60-80s, Jim Beam released Christmas decanters! My grandmother collected them! RIP!
Nice. I have a spark plug bottle of beam. Haven’t ever opened it
You should. You can keep it on display when it is empty.
Would luv to taste the difference between them.
Great info
Glad it was helpful!
Nice. Always nice to find a good dusty.
Very heartfelt closing. Thanks for doing this the way you do. Keep up the great content. Thanks.
Thank you for being here!
I think another sign of this is age statements being on more and more bourbons because there is just more old stock around.
WOW
Great video
Thank you!
Those decanters are super cool, thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Uv already had dustys n u know better
I mix OGD 114 50/50 with OGD bib. 😋 👍 😉 🥃 Cheers
Cheers!
I have batch 4 of the 15 year. Is that the newest batch? Will you continue releasing high aged batches?
Batch 4 was the last batch we will release of the 15 year. We are all out of liquid, and it has not been made by the distillery that originally made it in something like 19 years, so there is no more.
Very educational
Glad it was helpful!
This video reminds me why I dislike government bureaucracy and lobbyists so much. With that said, I would love to see craft distillers pool their resources and hire their own lobbyists.
They tried in TX. To have enough funding to be effective they need the larger craft distilleries to participate, but at least one of the larger craft distillers was threatened by their wholesaler and pulled out.
There is a difference from the flood of new brands and desirability of hard to find old school high end bottles like GTS, PHC, OF, etc Those limited high quality items will hold better value The flood of regular will dilute “that market” The other item to consider…these are consumables, people are drinking them…so again high end bottles have a different value vs high volume bottles The other factor is the upward pressure from retailers raising prices that creates a higher platform for values…ie Henry McKenna was $28…now it’s $60. They have created a retail price that creates a floor for values much higher than what old school people bought in at So…yes room for a correction… But flight to quality, age, low volume production hold higher value
